AQW 26220/22-27 Written question to the Minister for the Economy

To ask the Minister for the Economy to detail any engagement she has had with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and local businesses to understand the reasons for the significant underspend on flood support funding allocated to support local businesses in Downpatrick and Newry affected by floods in 2023.

My department has had on-going engagement with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council officials over the duration of the scheme. My understanding is that the total cost of the schemes is lower than estimated due to 1. lower than anticipated application numbers and 2. The total eligible costs incurred by applicants to the Enhanced Flood Support Scheme (EFSS) was lower than anticipated.
