Answer
My Department has a responsibility to manage surface water which falls onto a road. The owner or occupier of land adjoining a road is responsible for ensuring that surface water from their land does not flow onto or over the road. Similarly, landowners have a responsibility to ensure that drainage from a road is not impeded by a lack of maintenance of ‘drains’ within their property.
The Department is actively investigating the drainage issues and will develop a programme of works to repair any affected systems. Officials will liaise with all relevant landowners to ensure that their drainage systems do not allow water to flow onto the road or restrict the flow of water from the public road.
