Answer

The effectiveness of roadside diesel particulate testing has already been established and is guided by EU recommendation C (2023) 1796 on PN testing and other industry best practice guidance.

The purpose of the trial conducted by the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) was to determine the practical impact that such a test may have on its testing environment and service delivery model. The trial demonstrated that particulate testing equipment could be integrated into DVA’s existing vehicle testing model and is suitable for deployment at the roadside.
